Will my CPU bottleneck my new GPU?

Hey everyone!

I was looking to upgrade my GPU and today I found a great deal for Radeon R9 380 2Gb, which I had to take. However, I suspect that my lntel i3-2105 @ 3.10GHz will bottleneck my new GPU. Am I right? And if so, to what extent will it approximately bottleneck? My PC has 8 Mb RAM, if that makes any difference.

I would also appreciate suggestions for my new CPU in a price range of 100-150e.

Thanks in advance!

There will be no bottleneck, and I assume you mean 8gb and not 8mb of ram

Some games will show advantage from upgrading your i3 to an i5, but in most cases you'll still have a good experience.

Some CPUs to look for:

i5 2500

i5 2500K

i5 3470

i5 3570

i5 3570k

I'd pass on an i5 2400 or 2300, due to low clockspeeds.

Thanks for the suggestions! They are currently a bit out of my price range but I will keep them in mind.

If the only thing you're doing is gaming, you should have very little to no issues with the current processor in your system.

And if you're really tight with your budget and have decent temps, you can always give overclocking a go, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to push this processor to 3.5Ghz and for gaming, that's what you need is high single core performance.

I would not expect to find one of these CPUs new, considering they've been out of production for several years. Best place to get one today is on eBay.

i3 2xxx are locked CPUs. i5 2xxx and 3xxx can be overclocked 4 bins, because they have turbo, but the only way to overclock an i3 is with baseclock.

Baseclock generally can't be increased more than 4-5mhz before instability occurs, due to absolutely everything else in the system (including things like SATA / USB) being overclocked too, so OP would be lucky to get more than 100mhz.

Correct you are, I'm too used to having a 4690K.

I know some motherboards allow you to unlink the BCLK from the memory, but wasn't sure if that was option in this case.
