This is just a thought, but it may help.
When I installed an internal drive recently I ran into the same problem. I felt kindof stupid, because I completely forgot to partition and format the drive. Duh! :) I am under the influence, though, that these drives come pre-formatted and ready to run (just plug it in and go).
If I were in your situation, I would re-run Data Lifeguard Tools and try to reformat the partition on the drive, if it's an option. This, of course, assumes that you don't want to lose any data on the drive already! (I say assume because it doesn't look like you could have any data on it right now...) :)
Oh, and another thought: Does it come up under Disk Management? Right-click my computer, click Manage, click Storage on the left, and click Disk Management. If it's listed, you may be able to do something there.
