report values not showing up.

I have a crystal report which I pass a DataSet to using VB.NET. The report was working fine, but then I make some changes to the import query and now nothing shows up in the crystal report. Crystal doesn't give me any errors, simply nothing shows up.

Why would nothing show up in the report. I know that this is a rather ambigous question, but I really need some help here. Thanks so much.

>>> The data displays fine when I run it directly in Crystal reports 10, but when I run it from my VB.nET windows forms application, nothing shows up.

Are both of them hitting the same database?  Did you make sure that when running in Crystal you are really hitting the database and not just looking at saved data (File -> Save Data With Report) option?

When you changed the import query did you change the select command for a VB.Net DataAdapter?  If so, did you remember to regenerate the associated DataSet(s)?  I assume you had this working before so you're calling the DataAdapter's fill method?

Where was the query?

After making the changes did you verify the database

  Open the report

  Click DATABASE --> VERIFY DATABASE

  Follow the prompts

Crystal stores the query with the report and uses positional links rather than name links so changes to the query have to be explicitly updated.  If you changed the field order you are probably getting some kind of datatype mismatch.

If that doesn't solve the issue, please show the original query and the changes.

Can you go back to the old query and run with it?

Does the new query run in the database?

would the link have anything to do with it, in the database expert window?

(I removed the link and even after I removed it, nothing shows up.)

its as if a select expert criteria is on, and I don't know it or something, but I checked the select expert and I cleared them all out.

I changed the query back to the original query and I still don't get anythiing.

-yes they are hitting the same database, same two tables. And yes the data is fresh.

-yes, the dataset is being regenerated.

ok, I figued it out, I didn't realize there was both a record selection expert and a group selection expert!

I had a formula left over in the group selection, once I took that out, my report worked fine!

geezzeee!

Is it just the query that you made changes to - no formula or selection criteria, etc. -- I'm wondering if there's a null value in the selection formula or an impossible condition, etc.?  If you execute the query on the database do you get the expected results?
