JDeveloper Connection to AS

0
June 26, 2016

I have installed (and am evaluating) Oracle 9i AS. I want to connect to it from JDeveloper. AS and JDeveloper are on seperate machines.

The Enterprise Manager shows OC4J to be up and running. If I execute "http://:7777/j2ee/servlet/HelloWorldServlet" I get the proper response.

But when I connect from JDeveloper to AS the connection fails.

However, if on the server I execute on the command line: "java -jar oc4j.jar" then the connection from JDeveloper works. (I learned this trick from someone else, not from the manual.) But if I interrupt that process then the JDeveloper connection fails again.

What is this oc4j.jar executable? Why won't JDeveloper connect without it? Why isn't it automatically part of the AS services? How can I get it to start with AS? Is there some config setting I need to change? Is it described somewhere in the documentation?

It is the problem with server. I have also explored it very much. But it did not solved.

Oracle team will response on this problem.

If you are using Oracle9i JDeveloper 9.0.2, deployment is only supported from within the IDE to stand alone OC4J's. To deploy with Oracle9i JDeveloper 9.0.2 to a proper installation of Oracle9iAS, you have to use either the enterprise manager console or the dcmctl command line tool for deployment.

With Oracle9i JDeveloper 9.0.3 Preview and production, support to both stand alone OC4J's and Oracle9iAS is supported. For a brief intro to what has to be done with Oracle9i JDeveloper 9.0.3 to deploy to Oracle9iAS see:

OK, got it to work. But this seems very kludgy compared to the connection to "external" OC4J. Is this only because its a preview version? Will there be a new release of both JDeveloper and OAS to better coordinate them?

Something else about JDeveloper I just noticed today: you can't open a file on another machine over the MS network (e.g. //WWW/Data/Ugh.txt) but only the local disks (and I suppose mapped network disks).

There is a production release of JDev currently being staged ... if all goes well, should be available tomorrow. So, yes, there will be an update, but conceptually the deployment to Oracle9iAS will remain the same - stand alone as in 9.02, local DCM if 9iAS is on the same machine, and remote DCM if 9iAS is on another machine. All resulting in one-click deployment once the configuration is done.

It's not perfect the way it is but at least for those who want remote deployment to Oracle9iAS within the IDE, it works. This is the first cut at getting DCM utility working within JDeveloper so feedback on how it could be improved is always useful.

Here is some feedback, then. I haven't yet successfully deployed to the remote server. When I run the connection test I get first a failure, wait 30 seconds, then success:

Sorry for the delay ... are you using both the 9.0.3 production releases (JDev and 9iAS)? Or is it 9iAS 9.0.2 and JDev 9.0.3. The reason I ask is that JDev 9.0.3 went production on Thursday for download on OTN and may resolve the problem if what you are describing happens to be a bug.

I'm using Jdeveloper 9.0.3 (Oracle IDE     9.0.3.10.35) and I'm trying to deploy to Oracle 9ias (J2EE and Web Cache Release) 9.0.3 using the Oc4jDcmServlet.ear application that comes with jdeveloper. Try the following and see if it helps.

Select the application server connection and edit

In the conneciton tab see

If you have specified OC4J Instance Name (which is optional)

If so remove it

Make sure your REmote 9iaS Oracle Home directory is correct.

Test connection

Now deploy the application

Many Thanks! Getting rid of the optional host name worked. Is there any reason to provide the host name in the future?

Thanks again,

I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3 for my development environment.

I am able to deploy the EAR at development environment but at live site, I am getting error like Connection refused.

I am using Oracle Application server 10.1.3 for deployment.
