Are there any devs working on the Samsung Galaxy Stellar?

0
June 27, 2016

I keep searching trying to find stuff. I found a thread on another forum that led me to getting root. I know patience is a virtue, and all, but I should would like to see some work on roms, and recoveries, and for there to actually be a section on XDA for this device.

Yeah I accidentally tried to flash a bootloader from the "Verizon-GS3-CASUAL-Revision131a" java program. I lost my backups in the process so can anyone give me a hand with a backup from thier Stellar?

Hey I actually found the open-source kernel and platform for the Stellar at Samsung's Open Souce site.

Would that help me any?

Idk, I unfortunately don't know much about the development side of things. I rely on the devs here for that stuff. I'm to afraid to mess something up to flash something that someone else hasn't said that it works. I used to do that with my Captivate, but I need this phone to work, and not stuck in infinite bootloop

You wouldn't happen to have a backup by any chance?

I don't know what recovery to use, or how to flash it. If I had that I could make a backup, and upload it

If you got ClockworkMod recovery onto your phone (as I saw you got it rooted) you may be able to give me a zip and I think I can make it into a .tar file so Odin will read it since Odin mode is the only mode my phone will get into right now.

I'll keep looking around for some other methods of backup...I also heard Titanium Backup wasn't too bad...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1491157

This link is a place where I found the possibility of using a CWM .zip file for Odin.

I am rooted, but have not installed a recovery. I am not sure which one to flash, or how to flash it

Hmm...you bring up a good point. It's best I not ask you to put in a new recovery mode since we don't know what exactly that will do to the Stellar. I will say that before I bricked the phone I actually did make it work...barely so lets not do that.

Can you try using some programs that access the phone through the computer?

Google this: Index of /romdump

You should find a little program calle Romdump. It should extract the roms without messing anything up.

Do you know about ADB? If not I do have enough experience to help you with that.

June 27, 2016

You need to have a clockwork mod recovery that is built for this phone, or whatever phone you are using, in order to get it to flash. Without a custom recovery for the galaxy stellar, or at least a recovery that is sure to work for this phone (I think I heard about some S3 stuff that works for the stellar, like the root method I think you used) the recovery will not flash and your phone will not load until you reflash the stock recovery.

Do not flash any recoveries until you know they work for your phone (i.e. someone has tested them), or without a backup of your stock recovery.

Since you are both saying you're not devs and don't really know what you're doing (neither do I really) I would suggest not flashing any recoveries that have not been confirmed to work for the stellar. Yes, many people use CWM and TWRP but there is a custom build of those recoveries for every phone, they are not universal.

I'm really interested in this phone so I'm hoping some development starts. Without community support and development I don't think I would bother switching to Verizon to get this phone even though its free. I hate cell phone contracts...

Not to be rude, but you wouldn't happen to have a rooted Galaxy Stellar on hand?

I also found something else that may help bring the phones back:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946

UPDATE: If anyone can use this on their phones I would be very grateful:

This link shows how to use romdump to get the stock firmware.

I thought there would be a lot more people like me who needed a new phone, didn't really have money for an upgrade, so they went with this phone like I did. Doesn't really seem like it has gained much interest in the dev community. It still doesn't have it's own subforum on here. I am starting to really regret getting this phone. Half the fun of having android for me was the dev, and community support for the devices I had in the past. I had the galaxy s, and the inspire 4g, both of which had really big communities, and they started pretty much right at the release for those phones.

Hey do you two have Samsung Stellars? If so, are you interested in rooting your phone?

0
June 27, 2016

HEY guys I rooted my phone already. Things were going great, until i decided to download some kind of font switch. I guess it is required for the phone to be root. Then it asked me to restart my phone, that's when my phone froze on the samsung logo screen . It' stuck there ever since. I did a factory reset, and that didn't work either. So i downloaded ODIN and im waiting for a STOCK rom! can anybody help me with that and PM me?It would be great THANKS!

June 27, 2016

Sovereign738111 and I worked on this yesterday and got the recovery, system, and bootloader images off of my phone and into a couple of files. Now we just need a developer to give them to...In the meantime I'm also reading up on how to build a custom ROM etc. so that I can get familiarized with it. That way I can possibly try it myself. I know how to compile my own regular Linux kernel and add packages and things of that nature, and looking at what I've seen so far, figuring this out for Android shouldn't be too difficult.

0
June 27, 2016

I don't have the Stellar but I would be willing to work on a ROM for you guys. If someone would give me the files I need, I'll gladly do it. Just need a couple of people to test also.

I removed bloatware according to the list on

this thread

. (I have a backup of my rooted stock.) Is there anything else I should remove? This is what is on the phone:

Should I add anything like the terminal emulator?

You can remove books, maps, street, a couple others. You should add terminal emulator since it's really useful sometimes.

Do a lot of people specifically not use maps and street? I can remove them, although I actually just finished updating them in /system/app. =P

Also, is there an easy way to make sure the APKs are zip aligned?

0
June 27, 2016

Mediahub, my files, not sure about neocore. I'll look into it. It wouldn't be bad to leave maps and street just giving ideas, not sure how many people use them. I use dsixda kitchen for zipaligning.

EDIT: Neocore would be safe to remove, didn't know what it was until a second ago.

Hey can anyone guide me to rooting this phone? Not being able to move apps to external sd is my main frustration! Once in root what programs are safe to remove? The limited space on the phone is killing me! Really don't want to have a brick any help much appreciated!

@XNORDSTORMX:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1762709

Head to the section 2 (Section 2: How to Root/ Unlock bootloader/ Flash Custom recovery(Windows)).

STOP at step 7. DO NOT try to put a custom bootloader on it; a custom Stellar bootloader's not done yet!

I have tried link2SD to move apps and so far it keeps telling me that I have insufficient storage...so be careful.

Great! Was able to easily obtain root for stellar with the tool here- forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883984

Now what I would LIke to do Is flash a stable JellyBean Rom Is that at all possIble yet? Also any way of swItchIng the phones Internal memory to external Ive seen trIcks wIth the Galaxy S3. Was able to Install tItanIum and UnInstall some of the bloat safely maInly the games.

It is relatively easy to debloat a rooted Stellar. Remount /system as rw and delete the bloatware you don't want. Remount as ro after you are done.

Still really wishing for some good dev support, but it doesn't look like it is coming

0
June 27, 2016

Ya know. As long as we can at least get a port or CM9 or ICS Kang, I'd be happy.

Tired of this stock interface.

0
June 27, 2016

Yeah, I was really hoping for CM, or MIUI

0
June 27, 2016

We're getting there - we just got official TWRP support at least after working on it for a month. The dev says the goal is to get CM working, so that's next.

0
June 27, 2016

Awesome, thanks for the update. Where can I get my hands on the official TWRP?

0
June 27, 2016

since i cannot post links because 10 posts were not made, you can go to the official TWRP site and roll over to projects than TWRP 2.0 than click get TWRP for your device, search for jasper and there will be TWRP for Samsung Galaxy Stellar 4G (SCH-i200 Verizon), click it than scroll down and click the img

and the dd commands can be found on the rootzwiki development for galaxy stellar(root recovery and other stuff by invisiblek)

Anyone know what was in the update rolled out by Verizon? I didn't realize that by removing bloatware I was stopping myself from getting OTA updates, I just recently switched from AT&T, and never had that problem. Then again, I was also switching from all the many different roms available for my HTC Inspire. I miss all the fun stuff I could do with that phone. Maybe I should just buy another phone.

0
June 27, 2016

I got it, but I haven't really noticed anything different. Still no JB.

0
June 27, 2016

I picked up the update, don't remember what it said it did, and I can't find the pdf that says what it did. The only thing I've noticed that it did is reset my data counters, both Verizon's and my wifi. Annoying to me, but if you aren't using the stock ROM I don't think that would affect you anyways.

I'm on the stock rom, it's the only choice right now. I'm about to start digging to figure out what it takes to port another rom to this device I guess.

0
June 27, 2016

I am going to try this tutorial:

http://apcmag.com/port-roms-to-your-android-device.htm

and see if I can get anywhere. I will post results if worth posting.

0
June 27, 2016

Not sure what was in the update, but I don't notice anything different. I woke up and my phone was in TWRP recovery. I had to grab modem.bin and put the stock recovery back on. Then I installed the OTA update, re-rooted, grabbed boot.img, modem.bin (again) and system.img and gave it to a dev to look at. I'll post an update when he gets back to me.

0
June 27, 2016

Cool beans. I look forward to CM or some other roms too. I haven't had any luck doing it myself, because of matching the processor, and resolution of another phone to base the rom off of has not been easy. I am trying to research more to figure it all out.

Hey I may have found a ROM. Look for the dev billiard412 on goo.im (I used the goo.im app to find it by browsing for compatible ROMs). He's got an experimental one on there.

Tried it, but logcat is showing a lot of errors, so it can't complete the boot. I'm gonna try something else.
